The tara tree is native to the Cordillera region of Peru and Bolivia in South America, where it grows up to 3000 meters above sea level and tolerates dry climates and poor soils including those high in sand and rocks. The tree is also resistant to most pathogens and pests, mature pods are usually harvested by hand and typically sun dried before processing, one of its main uses being Tara Powder. In Pronex, we are very much specialized in this product which is processed in our modern production facility in Lurin, Lima.
Leather tanning process:
Tara tannins have a very light natural color and they are used to obtain very clear leathers with good light and heat fastness. Also, they give fullness and softness to the leathers with a smooth and firm grain. Tara tannins confer to leathers a grain cracking resistance, which is higher compared to any other vegetable tanning agent.
Pharmaceutical industry:
From the tara pod, tannins can be produced and later a product of gallic acid and tannic acid. We guarantee a minimum content of 52% tannins.
Description: The Tara (Caesalpinia Spinosa) is a wild tree, native to Peru, whose fruit is a pod (Fam. Leguminosa). Tara Powder is obtained by a mechanical process of crushing the pod (previously grinded), obtaining a fine yellowish white powder, rich in tannins.
Composition: 100% grinded Tara pod
Application: Tara powder is used in the tannery industry and in the chemical industry for extraction of tannins, gallic acid and derivatives.
The production process of Tara Powder is as follows:
1)In order to achieve the best quality of product, the Tara pod goes through the following process:
The tara tree grows mostly in the jungle and highlands of Peru, where the harvest and collection takes place.
2) The product is separated in two parts: The pod (for tara powder) and the seed (for tara gum).
3) The pod is grinded and packed and samples are sent to our laboratory facilities.
4) In the facilities, the product undergoes a strict analysis of its physical and chemical characteristics.
5) The particle size is evaluated in order to find the optimal fit for the leather tanning process.
6) Humidity is controlled as a standard measure of our quality control; we always maintain the product at its optimal temperature and ready for usage.
